New Alternatives for Children (NAC) is an innovative, award-winning child welfare agency with 39 years of experience and expertise serving children with chronic medical/mental health conditions. NAC is located in mid-town Manhattan, with a satellite Bronx office. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking an Institutional Giving Associate to join its Development team.
The Institutional Giving Associate will partner with the Assistant Director, Government Contracts & Strategic Initiatives, and liaison regularly with key program staff as well as other departments throughout the organization. They will also work with the Director of Institutional Giving identifying government, corporate and foundation grant opportunities and writing proposals. The position requires a collaborative mindset and an analytical and solution-driven approach to projects.

Description of Responsibilities:
•To support the administration of all contracts held by NAC with state and local government
•To identify government and private grant funding sources, research and track funders and potential funders, and write proposals and grant reports.
Government Contracts (60% allocation of time):
•Monitor and track all government discretionary and RFP awards
•Liaison with program and development staff to prepare narratives and develop requests and/or scopes of work and prepare and submit reports.
•Work with fiscal staff to ensure that budgets are properly monitored and utilized to ensure timely billing and reimbursement.
•Conduct data maintenance through a variety of government grant portals and assist with online grant submission.
•Maintain communication with all program officers at State and City agencies for all contracts and collaborate with NAC's fiscal office on claims.
•Develop budgets and budget modifications
•Maintain contract documentation and timely submissions. Work with NAC insurance and other vendors/subcontractors to ensure all documentation meets grant requirements.
•Prepare and send follow-up materials related to NAC’s discretionary awards—Thank you letters, one-pagers detailing the use of funds and/or program highlights
•Ensure that quarterly and monthly reports are prepared and submitted on time.
Foundation and Government Grant Research and Writing (40% allocation of time):
•Identify funding opportunities and new programs to match NAC priorities, using research.
•Generate revenue for NAC programs and services through timely submission of well-researched, well-written and well-documented grant proposals.
•Write progress reports to corporate and foundation funders.
•Liaison with program staff for program information.
• Draft and manages thank you letters and other forms of donor correspondence.
Required Education and Experience:
•Must have Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred).
•Excellent communication skills needed.
•Familiarity with government grant portals a plus.
•Good Excel skills required and some grant writing experience necessary.
•Non-profit experience with a health and/or social service agency is a plus.
•Communication – writes clearly and informatively; communicates numerical data effectively; is able to read and interpret written and quantitative information.
•Analytical – is able to develop and manage budgets; has aptitude for on-line systems. Able to synthesize complex or diverse information. Meticulous attention to detail required.
•Strategic thinking – understands organizational priorities and needs; is able to conduct research to identify funding opportunities; supports and explains reasoning for grant proposal goals and objectives; develops reasonable action plans.
•Planning/organizing – Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Prioritizes and plans work activities to achieve deadlines; good time management.
•Teamwork - must possess the ability to work collaboratively as well as independently to achieve goals
