The job of the Licensed Behavioral Health Practitioner (LBHP) is to work collaboratively with Article 29I Clinic staff to asses, develop and implement behavioral health plans to improve targeted areas of need (skill building). The LBHP will work directly with foster youth and their care giver to address emotional, behavioral and social challenges the youth presents in the home/community by providing counseling or engaging in specific skill building activities with the youth utilizing a strength’s based and trauma informed perspective. The Licensed Behavioral Health Practitioners will have a direct impact on the improved outcomes and positive change of the foster care vulnerable population.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Establish treatment goals for children, utilizing historical and current available information in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
Assist children and youth to develop skills as defined in their behavioral health plan.
Providing individual counseling and treatment such as substance abuse counseling and treatment, trauma-informed counseling and treatment, family and group counseling and transitional counseling
Identify community resources and create opportunities to engage youth in skill-building activities.
Provide psychoeducation and wellness education as needed to youth and caregivers.
Utilize evidenced based psychotherapeutic interventions to target maladaptive or poor coping behaviors.
Communicate with family, case planning staff and medical practitioners regarding a youth’s progress, strengths and challenges.
Structure interventions to decrease problem behavior and increase developmentally appropriate pro-social behavior.
Enhance and track compliance with behavioral expectations to demonstrate concrete improvement in identified areas of need.

Education & Experience
NYS licensure as a Psychoanalyst, Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Mental Health Counselor or Social Worker. A minimum of three years of clinical experience working with children.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required effectively communicate. The employee is required to stand; walk, feel; and reach. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
