The Assistant Director of Residential Services is responsible for supporting and assisting the Director's mission and vision of managing and leading the residential program. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director in all aspects of day to day operations, including but not limited to the coaching, teaching, and supervision of residential staff members and teams. The role of the AD is also to support and strengthen our programming and Sanctuary model to ensure that we are informed by best practices in the field and we are creating and implementing innovative and evolving treatment approaches. The Assistant Director is also responsible for assisting the Director and the campus leadership team in managing and evaluating Sanctuary and TCI practices.

The Assistant Director of Residential Services' primary responsibility is maintaining the safe and therapeutic operation of the residential services in all cottages. This includes supporting the Director in planning, monitoring and improving the overall Residential Services delivered to the children in residential and providing the highest quality of service possible. The AD works very closely with all of the program managers, the night supervisor, the campus administrator, and closely also with the Clinical Directors, the school leadership, and the campus leadership team. While assisting with all tasks that are part of running the most effective residential program possible, the Assistant Director will focus on supporting the teams through consistent presence in the milieu and team meetings. The Assistant Director role-models and coaches staff on the use of Sanctuary principles, the most appropriate trauma-sensitive interventions, and the importance of team work and good communication. Understanding and assessing the needs of each individual cottage (including addressing re-enactments and collective disturbance), communicating these needs to the Director of Residential Services and working with administration and the Program Manager to meet these are essential.

The Assistant Director will be able to serve as a mentor for new program managers, and will work with the Director to ensure there are no gaps in coverage when there are openings or vacations. The residential recreation program should focus on providing residents with opportunities for growth through novel experiences with the goal of increasing self-regulation, gaining self-confidence, finding interests that will motivate the residents for years to come and preparing them for life in a less restrictive environment. A focus on increasing campus wide programming and opportunities cottages to program together is an essential part of the role of the Assistant Director.

A primary task of the Assistant Director will be helping ANDRUS to reduce the practice of restraints, and increase the use of treatment, programming, and interventions that prevent restraints. Other job responsibilities include but not are not limited to assisting the Director in reports, presentations, interviewing and hiring, investigations, and maintaining accuracy and compliance in all aspects of administrative paperwork and other requirements.

The qualified candidate will possess:
• BA in Hu man Services field or related with five years of administrative experience in a residential setting
• Minimum of five years residential experience
• Experience training or coaching staff
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• Moderate to strong writing and computer skills, Must be proficient in Outlook, Word and ability and desire to learn new computer programs
• Ability to adhere to our organization's core values
• Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to facilitate team meetings
• Must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization
• Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations with poise, tact, and diplomacy
• Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. Needs high energy and an assertive yet collaborative nature.
• Valid NYS Driver's License
• Physical Requirements:
o Must possess ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs and lift weights up to 30 lbs.
o Must have physical capacity to restrain or assist in the restraint of a child
